An ATT, or Alternative Treatment Technology, septic system is a new type of system that is required by many counties in Oregon, including Deschutes County. This system includes a septic tank to capture & treat solid waste, an ATT pod to treat the wastewater, & a drainage system, usually a sand filter or leach lines. 

Many counties in Oregon require this new type of septic system for new construction & as a replacement when the original system fails. They are required almost everywhere in Deschutes County with minimal exception. These types of systems are not yet required in Klamath or Lake Counties.
